New special Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown will be broadcast Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24, 2011

The new Peanuts TV special, Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown, will have its premiere TV broadcast on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24, 2011.

The FOX network has announced that Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown will air 8:30-9:30 PM (Eastern/Pacific) as part of a block of animated specials (including an "Ice Age" and "Simpsons" special). This is the first time a Peanuts TV special has aired on the FOX network; and though Happiness is a Warm Blanket was released on DVD and Blu-ray earlier this year, this will be its first time on broadcast television.

Here's Fox's PR summary of the special:

The Peanuts gang is back and ready to help Linus (Austin Lux) break away from his childhood security blanket. The stakes are high as Linus learns his grandmother is coming to visit, and he must decide whether or not to dispose of his most cherished possession. In an effort to help Linus kick his habit, Charlie Brown (Trenton Rogers), Lucy (Grace Rolek) and even Snoopy pitch in to help. Lucy is quick to attempt her amateur psychiatric skills, while Snoopy employs the age old drag-and-run method. Despite all attempts, Linus eventually learns that security is a valuable quality in life and everyone is entitled to their own version of a security blanket.

FOX will repeat Happiness is a Warm Blanket on Friday, December 16 from 8:00-9:00 PM (Eastern/Pacific).

In Canada, CTV will be also be showing Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown on Thursday November 24 from 8:30-9:30 PM (Eastern/Pacific).

It looks like "Happiness is a Warm Blanket" did okay but not great.

Out of 14 shows in primetime, "Happiness is a Warm Blanket" get 4.96 million viewers and was ranked #8 out of 14.

"A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving," which overlapped with the new special, did somewhat better, receiving 5.78 million viewers and was ranked #6.

In between the two - "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" but besting "Happiness is a Warm Blanket" - was "A Very Gaga Christmas" with 5.51 million viewers.

All were trounced by repeats of "The Big Bang Theory" on CBS with 11.24 million viewers in the #1 slot (and CBS's other repeats of regular shows also did better than all the specials.)
